You are cordially invited to a very special art show and zine release party on Friday, April 5, 2013. Artist Ted Trager will release his zine “Twenty Dudes” and exhibit drawings from the zine. The opening reception is from 6-10pm, during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk, in the Magoski Arts Colony. As always, this event is FREE and open to the public. Zines and art will be for sale.

Ted’s most recent zine project, “Twenty Dudes,” features drawings of various men (past and present) whom he finds interesting. Most of the “dudes” are not widely known. Ted’s interests are wide, so he draws artists (like Teching Hsieh, Dieter Roth, and Chris Ware), musicians (like Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Ornette Coleman), filmmakers (like David Lynch, Abbas Kiarostami, and Werner Herzog), writers (like Philip K. Dick, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and Breece D’J Pancake), and historical figures like Emperor Norton I.

Come see how the wonders of Science and Art co-mingle in a special exhibition entitled Chantal deFelice’s “The Science Colony.” For Artist/Naturalist Chantal deFelice, the microscope is as important as the paintbrush. The underwater camera becomes a lens through which miniature worlds are expanded and documented. The field notebook is essential. Scientific Data, when viewed through the artist’s eyes, becomes an infinite world of wonders.

You will never look at mollusks the same again.

The opening reception is Friday, January 4, 2013 from 6-10pm, during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. It is free and open to the public.

Hello friends,

You are invited to a special event at BOOKMACHINE books + zines. Local artist Dan Joyce recently completed a massive book project called “The War of the Soul.” On December 7, 2012, we will be hosting a book release + art show. This event runs from 6-10pm, during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. As always, it’s FREE, but books and art will, of course, be for sale.

The War of the Soul is a story of a religious fanatic who fights a spiritual war with his world, in particular, a bullish rival he calls, the Other. It contains over 200 ink wash illustrations, all 150 psalms of the bible and 150 accompanying poems that tell the story.

Dan Joyce is one of Fullerton’s most prolific and fascinating artists. He attended Fullerton College and graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a B.F.A. He lives and works in his Fullerton studio, and his art hangs in several galleries here in Orange county and Los Angeles.

Artist Statement:

A year ago I went to Hollywood Forever and attended my very first Dia de Los Muertos Celebration-a celebration for all who have passed. The graveyard was transformed into a magnificent party full of joy, color, and life. There was dancing, music, food, colorful ornate costumes, and strangers befriending strangers. They were all there for the same reason: to celebrate the lives of loved ones no longer physically with us. I hope to capture the same joy and color with this collection, commemorating those who have passed but will never be forgotten. Each piece in this collection celebrates the vibrant lives of women who have made an impact in this world. This collection is for them. May their legacy live on.

Bookmachine books + zines is proud to present “Open Space” a photography exhibit about Coyote Hills, featuring photographs by Ira McNabb, Josue Rivas, and Jesse La Tour. The opening reception is Friday, October 5, 2012 from 6-10pm during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk.

Coyote Hills, one of the last, large natural open spaces in North Orange County, is threatened by development. For over 30 years, the Friends of Coyote Hills, a local non-profit volunteer organization, have been fighting against the Chevron Corporation to protect the land, and open it as a park, for all to enjoy.

This November, Fullerton voters face their last chance to save Coyote Hills from development. A “NO” vote on Measure W will block Chevron’s most recent development proposal.

In the tradition of social realism and environmentalist art, “Open Space” is meant to give people a visual vocabulary to a threatened landscape. Half of all proceeds will go to the Friends of Coyote Hills.

You are invited to the next art exhibit at Bookmachine books + zines. It’s called “Freedom and Disarray: Artwork by Dash Najarian. The opening reception is Friday, September 7, 2012 from 6-10pm during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Ardashes (Dash) Najarian has been drawing for as long as he can remember. Inspired by anime, music, and life experiences, Dash’s manga-style art (depicting heroes, creatures, and monsters) acts as a bridge between cartoons and the world of reality.
